Word cloud of @YouthDefence's Twitter followers' biographies |
So I checked, pulling stats on every group followed by everyone who follows Youth Defence, and tweeted some stats:
17%+ of Youth Defence followers bask in the delight of Paul Ryan's tweets, liking their mix of Ayn Ryand quotes and Irish current affairs.

Want Irish news? Consider following Fox News. You'll be in the company of just under 20% of Youth Defence's twitter followers.

Over 20% of Youth Defence followers follow AmericanPapist. Under 5% follow TheIrishCath. A neat microcosm of their US-based support.

Mitt Romney's Twitter account enjoys the patronage of over 20% of Youth Defence's followers. I didn't realise he discussed Ireland!

About a fifth of Youth Defence followers also enjoy the tweets of Tim Tebow, likely in the hopes he change American football for GAA.

Just shy of a quarter of Youth Defence followers subscribe to Rick Santorum, doubtless for his cutting insights into Irish current affairs.

About a sixth of Youth Defence followers also follow the well known voice of Irish opinion, Sarah Palin. A few other funnies in the list. For those interested, the remaining stats are below. I didn't go below 1%. Those present on the list are, of course, interesting. But what is perhaps worthy of greater examination is those absent. The ISPCC do worthy work, campaigning for and supporting children throughout Ireland. Temple Street Children's Hospital treats tens of thousands of Irish children a year. The LauraLynn Foundation is Ireland's only Children's hospice. None are present. I can't find any Irish children's charity supported by the fans of Youth Defence.
